U.S., August 1860, 80 Acres Land Grant Certificate, Act of March 3rd, 1855 entitled "An Act in addition to certain Acts granting Bounty Land to Certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in Military Service of the United States". Issued and Uncancelled, Jefferson Davis Portrait on left as Secretary of War, General Winfield Scott on right with Soldiers on horseback with men behind them and destruction in front of them, Allegorical male reaper on lower right and Indian trying to kill woman and child being rescued by outdoorsman, red underprint of Cannon, drums, patriotic shield, flags and "80 Acres" in middle. Cert.#48991. Issued to Catherine Hinton, widow of William Hinton, Private, Captains Pitzer and Johnson's Companies, Virginia Militia, War of 1812. Toning on left margin, a small piece missing from the lower left corner far from design and a small piece out of the top middle excess margin not touching design.
