lot # 1440 - u.s. coins medals
Rare Confederate Stonewall Jackson Medal. 1863. "Stonewall" Jackson medal. Tin, 50 mm. Almost Uncirculated. Struck in Paris before the end of the Civil War from dies by Armand Caque, and perhaps funded by Confederate subscriptions. A handsome example with glossy white surfaces beneath light toning throughout. NGC graded MS 63. There is a bruise on the surface of the obverse rim, mentioned only for the sake of accuracy, as the overall appearance is quite compelling. One of the 100 Greatest American Medals and Tokens and one of the few affordable original Confederate-era numismatic items available to collectors.
