Aleichem, Shalom (Solomon Naumovich Rabinovich) (1859-1916) Yiddish author, humorist and playwright from Ukraine. The musical "Fiddler on the Roof," based on his stories about Tevye the Dairyman, was the first commercially successful English-language stage production about Jewish life in Eastern Europe.

Autograph letter signed, 1p, in Hebrew, 5½ x 4½, Nervi, Italy, 1911, on personal stationery stamped : "S. Rabinowitz - Schalom Aleichem, Nervi (Itlalia) Villa Rosengarte." Rare Shalom Aleichem letter adressed to his friend Padelshevsky: "My dear and esteemed friend Padelshevsky: I would very much like to know if you received my modest gift that I sent you before the holiday. I thank you for your feelings of love and thanks to my family, and I send greetings to you and your family and conclude with love. Shalom Aleichem P.S. About my situation, I always have work to do. With thanks to God the creator of the World!" Very good; light soiling and fold marks at lower right.
