Multiple Crown CA, unused examples (8) overprinted "SPECIMEN" horizontally (Samuel D12) in black or red (1 r.), further overprinted on receipt from the UPU by a Portuguese Colony (Angola or Goa) with diagonal "COLONIAS" handstamps in blue, largely fresh and fine, part og. Rare.

Multiple Crown CA, the set with 'a' numbers incl. 1 c. optd. in vermilion, 25 c. on yellow back, 75 c. and 1 r. on emerald, the 20 r. very fine og. and the rare 50 r. hinged twice but of fine colour and centering, part og. 1922/24: Giraffe set of fifteen values complete unused to £ 1 yellow-orange, the lower nine values overprinted "SPECIMEN" horizontally and the high values "SPECIMEN." struck diagonally in black or red (25 c., 30 c. and 3 s. values) by Bradbury Wilkinson (Samuel type B5), fresh and fine, large part og. Rare Gi = £ 900.

1927: De La Rue Die Proofs (9), stamp size Frame only Proofs in black for the 5 c. - 75 c. values, all imperforate on glazed white card and dated between June 15 and June 23 at top, adhered to the De La Rue original record card. 1936c.: Composite Essay for proposed 50 c. value using the De La Rue "KODI" frame with "Mandated Territory of Tanganyika" at base and Duty Plates "50 c." at top engraved in black and oval George VI head-plate inserted, in sunken Die Proof format (93 x 105 mm.), endorsed "Appd. Design" and signed at lower right in ink. A unique and splendid Proof.

British India Post Office 1866/78: India 4 a. blue-green, Die II, used with 1873 ½ a. blue, Die II, used on 1881 cover to Dursley, tied by very fine strike of "BRITISH / P.O. / ZANZIBAR / B" in square bars duplex (Type Z2) in black (Oct 21). Reverse with ADEN transit cds (Oct 30) and Dursley arrival cds (Nov 14). A fine and scarce cover.rnrnProvenance: Harmers, London, 20 Dec 1994, lot 1861.

British India Post Office 1882/90: India 1 a. brown-purple, a vertical strip of three used on reverse of 1890 cover to Bombay individually tied by ZANZIBAR squared circle datestamps (June 4) in black. Small SEA POST OFFICE / F cds below (June 5) and carried on the "Sutlej" from Aden with Bombay arrival cds (June 16) also on reverse. Slight stain to envelope at corner but scarce.

British India Post Office 1892: India 2 a. 6 p. yellow-green, a single example used on 1892 cover to Bagamoyo, Tanganyika tied by bold strike of ZANZIBAR squared circle datestamp (May 25). Reverse with very fine strike of "Dar-Es-Salaam / Kaiserl. / Deutsche / Postagent" cds of receipt (May 30). Slight trim to envelope at left but a charming and scarce cover.

Overprinted at the Zanzibar Gazette 1895/96: India 1 a. plum surcharged in blue, a used horizontal pair of good colour, both stamps showing variety "small second "z" in Zanzibar" and "inverted "q" for "b" in Zanzibar", cancelled by Zanzibar thimble datestamps in black. A scarce multiple. Cert. BPA (1992) Gi = £ 1'000+.
