Auction 309-320 - Europe & Overseas - Day 3

1870/73: 8 d. on 9 d. brown-orange, wmk. Large Star, rough perf. 11½, a used example, off centre and thus showing "8 PENCE" additionally at top, lightly cancelled by Adeliade cds (19 Sept 1879) in black. An extremely rare variety and a fine and most unusual stamp. Cert. Ceremuga (2016).

1870/73: 9 d. rose-lilac, wmk. Large Star, perf. 10 x 11½-12½ or compound (large holes), three unused multiples, with horizontal pair and a block of six (2 x 3), each with large sheet margins below (73 mm.), the former with part accountancy handstamp in black at base, and a further block of four, well centred and of good colour, large part or unmounted og. A most attractive pair of multiples Gi = £ 240++.

1876/1900: 2 s. carmine (shades), wmk. Large Star, perf. 11½-12½, unused blocks of four (3) with 2 s. carmine block with fine centering and colour but with natural paper flaw on upper right stamp unapparent on face, sheet marginal block of four of 2 s. rose-carmine and 2 s. rose-carmine in a large holes block of four, all three fresh and fine with large part og.. Scarce Gi = £ 660+.

1901/02: 2 s. crimson, wmk. Crown SA, perf. 11½-12½, large holes, an unused block of six (3 x 2), of fine impression but left vertical pair with crease; 2 s. carmine in a block of four sheet marginal at left with slight splitting and a further block of four, large part or unmounted og. Attractive multiples Gi = £ 430+.

1901/02: 2 s. pale orange-red, wmk. Crown SA, perf. 10 x rouletted, an unused horizontal pair in the pale shade, vertical bend on right stamp and minor thin spot at left, browned large part og., a rare pair Gi = £ 1'100+.rnrn 

1876/1904: 1 d. rosine, wmk. Crown SA, perf. 13, used examples (4), with normal example, an example showing State 1 of the "Cracked Electro" with line from Queen's chin to "P" of PENNY, "Cracked Electro" Initial State of Type II with the Queen's bust unshaded and line progressing to first "A" of AUSTRALIA; and a fourth example with same flaw in a more advanced state. A scarce group.

1883/99: ½ d. brown (shades) to 6 d. pale blue (shades), wmk. Crown SA, perf. 10, the unused selection with ½ d. chocolate (2), ½ d. red-brown single and pair and ½ d. brown (2); 3 d. sage-green and an example with SPECIMEN overprint., 3 d. olive-green and deep green; 4 d. pale and aniline violet shades and an example with SPECIMEN overprint, 6 d. pale blue, blue and an example with SPECIMEN overprint, ½ d. red-brown perf. 10 x 11½-12 pair, ½...

1883/89: Bantam ½ d. deep brown, wmk. Crown SA, perf. 15, the unused horizontal strip of four, central pair showing variety "Imperforate between Vertically", of fine fresh colour, large part og. A rare and attractive multiple Gi = £ 1'500+.

Long Stamps 1st Issue 1886/96: 15 s. brownish-yellow, wmk. Crown over SA, perf. 10, an unused example, well centred and of fine fresh colour, minor wrinkle on large part og. Scarce Gi = £ 850.

Long Stamps 1st Issue 1886/96: 50 s. dull pink, wmk. Crown over SA, perf. 11½-12½, a cto used example of bright colour, lightly cancelled by part circular handstamp in black, intact gum on reverse. The unsold remainder of this value were sent to Melbourne, Victoria and cancelled upon arrival. Scarce and attractive stamp Gi = £ 750.

Long Stamps 1st Issue 1886/96: £ 4 lemon, wmk. Crown over SA, perf. 11½-12½, a cto used example of good clear colour, lightly cancelled by part circular handstamp in black, with gum on reverse. The unsold remainder of this value were sent to Melbourne, Victoria and cancelled upon arrival. A rare and attractive stamp Gi = £ 1'400.

Long Stamps 1st Issue 1886/96: £ 10 bronze, wmk. Crown over SA wide (SG Type 10), perf. 11½, small holes, an unused example of deep metallic colour, being the Official reprint originating from the original plate but with the wide rather than the narrow Crown over SA watermark, prepared for UPU SPECIMEN sets, this example, with large part og., without the Specimen overprint.
