SASANIAN KINGDOM: Varahran IV, 388-399, AR drachm (4.13g), KAR (Karzi), G-141, Sch-A31 (p.158), mint name both on obverse, at end of royal text, and on reverse, left of fire, pleasing VF, RR. Schindel tentatively read the mint combination as DAL on one side, KAL on the other, but on this piece, it is clearly KAL on both sides. There is a text left of the flames that remains uninterpreted.

Lead coins were issued during much of the Sasanian period, but few have been published, and no comprehensive study has ever been completed and published. All are extremely rare, and almost never better than fine condition.
