Letter by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook on behalf of e Jewish Policeman – Special
An interesting letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook on behalf of the policeman Yosef Bitter, whose wife gave birth to a son in the "Bikkur Cholim" hospital.
Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av 1931.
Written on Rabbi Kook's official stationery.
This is a nice example of the help Rabbi Kook willingly gave to each and every Jew and a special expression of his well-known charitability.
The policeman who is mentioned here, Yosef Bitter, is most likely the person who served as the secretary of "Tze'irei Ha'Mizrachi" in his city of Rembertów, Poland and who immigrated to the Land of israel during the 1920's. He died in 1946.
Condition: Good. Reasonable wrinkles and folding marks.

זוהי דוגמה יפה לעזרתו של הראי"ה לכל יהודי ויהודי, וביטוי מיוחד למידת טובו וחסדו המופלאה והמפורסמת.
השוטר הנזכר כאן, יוסף ביטר, הוא כנראה מי שעלה ארצה בשנות העשרים מהעיר רמברטוב שבפולין. בעירו כיהן כמזכיר אגודת 'צעירי המזרחי'. נפטר כנראה בשנת תש"ו [1946].

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Babad (1862-1930) Av Beit Din of Gura Humora since 1890. The grandson of Rabbi Yosef Babad, author of "Minchat Chinuch", one of the leading rabbis of Bucovina.
His Hassid son Rabbi Avraham Moshe Babad (1900-1980)a Torah and Kabbalah genius. Replaced his father as the rabbi of Gura Humora and after the Holocaust, a rabbi in Tel Aviv. The brother-in-law of the Rebbe, the "Makor Baruch" of Siret-Vizhnitz and the founder of the "Yachel Yisrael" Yeshiva of Haifa.

Kuntras Kol Abirei Ha'Ro'im. Does not appear in libraries in Israel! Was printed in the city of Leslau, 1870. By Rabbi Nathan Friedland, with letters by Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher and Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kalisher. 16pp. Condition: tears and omissions. (Printed without a title page).
Kuntras Mi'Devar Sheker Tirchak. About the bif lie and forgery of the 'National' system. By Rabbi Yisrael ben Rabbi Efrayi,m. Jerusalem, Adar 1948.

The booklet "Kiyor Me'Even Dar, Ve'Ner Me'ir Ba'Kad" by the Zionist activist Rabbi Ya'akov Ze'ev Bracher. Printed in memory of his son, the soldier, who died during World War I. Condition: excellent.

Letter by Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv Condemning the Smoking of Cigarettes
A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to Rabbi Dov Etinger.
In the letter, Rabbi Elyashiv thanks Rabbi Etinger for sending him his book, which clarifies the severity of smoking and the damage it causes one's health and the halachic prohibition to smoke since a Jew has a duty to maintain his health.
Among others, Rabbi Elyashiv writes: "His important book … which aims to clarify all the aspects of the problem of smoking … I give him my blessing and God willing, he will succeed in conveying the dangers of smoking and may this be his reward".
Condition: Very Good.
מכתבו של מרן הגרי"ש אלישיב זצ"ל בגנות עישון סיגריות - "להחדיר תחושת הסיכון שיש בעישון"
מכתב בכתב ידו ובחתימתו של מרן פוסק הדור רבי יוסף שלום אלישיב זצוק"ל, אל רבי דב אטינגר.
במכתב מודה הגרי"ש על קבלת ספרו של הרב אטינגר, המברר את חומרת העישון ונזקיו הבריאותיים, ואת האיסור ההלכתי לעשן, בגלל חובת שמירת הבריאות.
בין היתר כותב הגרי"ש: "ספרו החשוב... אשר שם לו למטרה ללבן את בעיית העישון מכל צדדיו, איבעית אימא גמרא איבעית אימא סברא... ברכתי נתונה לכ"ג, חפץ ד' בידו יצליח להחדיר תחושת הסיכון שיש בעישון, והיה זה שכרו".

Polemic of the Rabbinate of Vilnius, which Stirred Up the Emotions of the Entire Jewish World – the Letters of Protest of the Geniuses of the Generation against "the Change of the Character of the Rabbinate" – [1929] – a Historical Item
Historical background
During the years 1928-1930, an intense controversy shook up the Jewish world. Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky lived then in the city of Vilnius, bearing a very modest official title: teacher of Jewish law (Moreh Hora'ah). He was appointed as such already when he was twenty four years old, although there were other prominent Torah geniuses in Vilnius at the time.
It was customary in Vilnius at the time that the rabbis of the city were not officially ordained as rabbis.
During those years, Rabbi Yitzchak Rubenstein, a student of the Slabodka Yeshiva, arrived in Vilnius and presented himself as a candidate for the position of rabbi on behalf of the government. Rabbi Chaim Ozer and the other rabbis of Vilnius exerted their influence so that Rabbi Rubenstein will win the elections. Indeed, for several years, Rabbi Rubenstein did not interfere with rabbinical matters but served only as a Gabai and public activist. However, after World War I, he started to act in practice as the Chief Rabbi of Vilnius. Consequently, an intense controversy arose, which exceeded the boundaries of Vilnius and stirred up the emotions of the entire Jewish world. The most prominent rabbis expressed their opinion on the dispute between Rabbi Chaim Ozer and Rabbi Rubenstein, among them the Chazon Ish.
Before us are three authentic documents related to the controversy, which were impressively well-preserved. These documents are from the archive of Rabbo Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, the rabbi of Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit of Jerusalem, which were sent to him by the "Committee of the Gathering of Rabbis in Raduń".
A. A letter to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, the 14th of Tevet 1929, stencil priniting, with his hand-filled name in ink.
"On behalf of the gathering of rabbis that took place recently in Raduń according to the call of the 'Chafetz Chaim' about the scandal here in Vilnius regarding the question of the Chief Rabbi … we hereby enclose two versions of protest and ask his honor to sign his name on each of these versions, which will be printed …"
B. And C. The two versions of protest, defending Rabbi Chaim Ozer the rabbi of "Jerusalem of Lithuania" – the community of Vilnius.
In one of them it was written "The new community with its decision has offended not only the honor of the ancient community but that of the entire Jewish community … we see this as a first step that was intentionally taken to change the character of the Rabbinate, which has been customary for generations".

פולמוס הרבנות בוילנא, שהסעיר את כל העולם היהודי – מכתבי המחאה של גאוני הדור נגד "שינוי בדמותה של הרבנות הנהוגה מדור דור" – תרפ"ט [1929] – פריט היסטורי
רקע היסטורי:
בשנים תרפ"ח – תר"ץ סערו הרוחות בעולם היהודי. רבי חיים עוזר גרודזינסקי זצ"ל, ראש גולת אריאל, התגורר בעיר וילנה, ונשא בתואר רשמי צנוע ביותר: מורה הוראה. למשרה זו נתמנה כבר בהיותו אברך כבן 24, עם היות בוילנא גאוני תורה מופלגים.
כך היה מקובל בוילנא, שרבני העיר אינם מוכתרים באופן רשמי למשרת הרבנות.
לוילנא הגיע אז הרבי יצחק רובינשטיין, מחניכי ישיבת סלבודקה, והציג את מועמדותו לרב מטעם הממשלה. רבי חיים עוזר ורבני וילנא השפיעו שהוא ינצח בבחירות, לעומת המועמד האחר. במשך שנים ספרות הקפיד הרב רובינשטיין שלא להתערב בענייני הרבנות, אלא רק שימש כעסקן וגבאי. אך לאחר מלחמת העולם הראשונה החל הרב רובינשטיין לפעול כרבה הראשי של וילנא, הלכה למעשה. וכאן נוצר פולמוס אדיר שחרג מגבולותיה של וילנא, והסעיר את העולם היהודי כולו. גאוני ישראל חיוו דעתם בויכוח בין רשכבה"ג רבי חיים עוזר לבין הרב רובינשטיין, בין הפועלים במערכה היה גם מרן החזון איש.
לפנינו שלושה מסמכים אותנטיים מאותו פולמוס, שנשתמרו בצורה נהדרת במשך כל השנים שחלפו מאז. מסמכים אלו הנם מארכיונו של רבי יוסף חיים זוננפלד זיע"א רבה של העדה החרדית בירושלים, ונשלחו אליו באותם ימים מאת "ועד המסדר של אספת הרבנים בראדין".
א. מכתב אל הגרי"ח זוננפלד, י"ד טבת תרפ"ט, מודפס בסטנסיל, עם מילוי שמו בכתב יד בדיו.
"מטעם אספת הרבנים שהיתה זה לא כבר בראדין על פי קריאתו של מרן הגה"צ בעל ה'חפץ חיים' שליט"א בדבר השערוריה שנעשה פה ווילנא בעניין סידור שאלת הרבנות... הננו מצרפים בזה שני נוסחאות של מחאה, ונבקש את כתר"ה שייטיב נא ג"כ לחתום שמו על אחד מהנוסחות הללו, אשר תודפסנה...".
ב-ג. שני נוסחאות המחאה, ובהן קנאות לכבודו של רשכבה"ג רבי חיים עוזר רבה של "ירושלים דליטא" – קהילת וילנה המעטירה.
באחת מהן נכתב: "לא רק על כבוד העדה העתיקה עוותה הקהילה החדשה בהחלטתה, כי אם לכלל ישראל כולו... רואים אנו בזה צעד ראשון שנעשה במחשבה תחילה להביא שינויים בדמותה של הרבנות הנהוגה מדור דור".

המכתב כתוב ביידיש, על גבי גלויה. מוזכרת גם מרת חיא מושא, אמו של הגרי"ש, וזוגתו של הרב הנמען. בין היתר מספר גם על בנותיו. הוא כותב גם בשבחו של רבי אברהם אלישוב שהוא בעל חסד.
(רבי אברהם אלישוב אימץ את שם משפחת חותנו, רבי שלמה אלישוב, בעל ה'לשם', וגדול המקובלים בדורו).

The Establishment of the Military Chief Rabbinate – a Unique Collection containing more than 100 Lovely Photographs 0 1948 and Onwards
106 nice, important photographs from the first years of the military Chief Rabbinate. Many of the photographs show Rabbi Shlomo Goren, the military Chief Rabbi.
They also show various events of the Military Rabbinate, a visiting a wounded soldier, Hachnasat Sefer Torah, soldiers in far-away military bases (Eilat or Sinai), and more.
From the personal archive of Rabbi She'ar Yashuv Ha'Cohen, who served as a military rabbi during the first years of the State of Israel.

Letter by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, on official stationery, to the General Committee (Ha'Va'ad Ha'Kelali), on behalf of a Jew who served as a prayer leader on the Yamim Nora'im in a prison. Handwritten by the secretary Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Ralbag and signed by Rabbi Kook at the end of the letter.

Four leaves and additional segment of leaves from the book "She'ilat Ya'akov" Responsa by rabbi Ya'akov Segal Prager, with corrections and a scholarly gloss handwritten by him.
Many leaves with Halachic, Torah and Mussar Novellae, most likely handwritten by Rabbi Ya'akov Eliyahu Prager. 1910-1930.
A notebook titled "Derasha – Shmuel Binyamin Ze'ev Prague on the day of his Bar Mitzvah which was on Yom Kippur Eve 1933", mostly handwritten by him and at its end, the handwriting of his father Rabbi Ya'akov Eliyahu Prager.

Kol Ha'Shofar – a Polemic Booklet against Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, whose Copies were Meant to be Destroyed – 1920
When Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook published his book "Orot" it was happily accepted by most of the Haredi community. However, some of the zealots, who looked for a reason to fight Rabbi Kook, decided to use the matter to hurt him and his student Rabbi Harlap. For this purpose, they wrote the booklet "Kol Ha'Shofar" which presents, in a fragmented and distorted manner passages from the book "Orot". They also presented their objection to the book. They sent the booklet to several rabbis in Israel and abroad so that they will add their support to the call printed in the booklet to reject Rabbi Kook's books.
The booklet was written by Akiva Porush, who concealed his name (yet hinted at it in the name of the booklet).
The booklet was printed in Elul 1920 and caused a great dispute in Jerusalem. Eventually, the rabbis of Jerusalem decided to destroy the revolting booklet and what the author had thought to have done to Rabbi Kook's books was done to his. There are almost no copies left of this revolting booklet since most of them were indeed destroyed. Most of the surviving copies are missing some leaves. Before us is a complete copy of the booklet, which shocked and outraged the most prominent rabbis.
The leaves are unbound, as they had left the printing press.
At the end of the booklet, a stamp of "Agudat Ha'Kodesh".

קול השופר – חוברת הפולמוס החריפה נגד מרן הראי"ה קוק, שעותקיה נידונו לשריפה – תר"פ
כשהוציא מרן הראי"ה את ספרו "אורות" שכתב ברוח קודשו הנשגבה, התקבל הספר בברכה ובשמחה אצל ציבור החרדים שהסתופפו בצלו של הרב. אך הקנאים קצרי הדעת, שביקשו עילה להילחם בקדוש ה' הראי"ה זיע"א, החליטו לנצל את העניין לפגוע בו ובתלמידו הרי"מ חרל"פ. לשם כך כתבו חוברת פלסתר בשם "קול שופר", ובה הובאו בצורה מקוטעת ומסורסת משפטים מתוך הספר "אורות", וכן דברי התנגדות לספר, ושלחו זאת למספר רבנים בארץ ובחו"ל על מנת שיוסיפו את חתימתם לקריאה הנדפסת בחוברת, לפסול את ספריו של הראי"ה ולדונם לכיליון.
מחבר החוברת הוא עקיבא פרוש, שהעלים את שמו (אולם רמזו בשער).
שניים מרבני ירושלים, שהיו אמנם בידידות אישית עם הראי"ה, צירפו את חתימתם לנוסח הראשוני שמסרו להם הקנאים, אשר היה מתון יחסית (כפי שהסביר האדמו"ר מגור במכתבו הידוע). אחר כך הוסיפו הקנאים לחוברת דברי חירוף וגידוף נגד הראי"ה, ככל שעלה על רוחם, וכן מכתבים מזויפים ומסורסים כביכול מגדולי ישראל נגד הראיה! למרבה האבסורד, בין היתר מובא מכתב הסכמה שכביכול קיבלו מאת הגאון האדר"ת (חותנו של הראי"ה, שנודע בה-ערצתו עצומה כלפי חתנו!).
החוברת נדפסה באלול תר"פ, והבעירה את אש המחלוקת בירושלים.
כך למשל כתב אז הגאון רבי נחמן שלמה גרינשפאן זצ"ל: "מעולם לא ראיתי כתב פלסתר כזה. הדבר הזה הרעיש את כל עירנו. הרב ישראל חיים דייכעס החליט לצאת במחאה נמרצה כנגד התנפלות מגונה כזו".
רבי צבי פסח פרנק כתב אז דברים חריפים על הקנאים "שנתלבשו במסווה הצביעות ומכריזים כי מקנאים המה קנאת ה' ומשתמשים רק בשמות הזקנים לסמא העיניים וכל מבין רואה כי לא נוכח האמת דרכם, משתמשים בכתבי פלסתר להרבות מחלוקת בישראל".
הראי"ה עצמו כתב באותם ימים לבנו: "הציבור היה תוסס מפני הנבלה של החוברת 'קול השופר' של מחרחרי הריב, אבל לא פעלה כל השתדלותם להצר את הצעדים של דרך הקודש שאנו הולכים בה, כי אם להרחיבם בעזרת ד'".
בסופו של דבר דנו רבני ירושלים את החוברת המתועבת לשריפה ולכיליון, וכאשר זמם המחבר לעשות לתורת הראי"ה - כן נעשה לו. מפורסם בירושלים הסיפור על מיתתו החטופה בעוון ביזויו של מרן הראי"ה.
כמעט שלא נותרו עותקים מחוברת פלסתר זו, שכן רובם הושמדו ונשרפו. ברוב העותקים שנותרו הידועים כיום חסרים עמודים.
לפנינו עותק שלם מחוברת זו, שגדולי ישראל נחרדו והזדעזעו ממנה.
