lot # 1028 - united states indian head cents
1872. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. The 1872 is considered the most difficult Indian cent date, aside from the 1877, to obtain in Gem Mint State condition. This is due to the poor quality of the copper alloy being used at the Mint at the time. This Gem Red and Brown example is far finer than most survivors, thus the high grade by PCGS and the coveted CAC sticker. Slightly mottled red-orange and straw-tan colors equally overlay each side. There are no mentionable distractions or carbon spots, however, the strike is (typically) a bit soft in some local areas of the design. Pop 73; 7 finer, 1 in 65+, 6 in 66 (PCGS # 2104) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600.
