lot # 3293 - GREECE- COINS & TOKENS COUNTERMARKS ON OTTOMAN COINS
ΛΕΣΒΟΣ – ΘΑΣΟΣ / LESVOS – THASOS. Rare combination of three (3) countermarks from both Lesvos & Thasos on 40 pa ottoman coin (1255). On obverse combination of 3 countermarks of Plomari (Πλωμάρι) Lesvos. “ΔΠ” [Δ(ημογεροντία) Π(λωμαρίου), Council of Elders of Plomarion - Lesvos. Nice full struck (Wilski G 4-04)]. “Π” [ΠΛ(ωμάριον), Plomario of Lesvos with the script “λ” on reverse. Not very clear (Wilski G 16-01). A countermark written in Ottoman Turkish from Plomari (Πλωμάρι), bearing the 1306 A.H. date. Clear struck. Most probably (Wilski A 3-10). On reverse “ΚΑΑ / 1884” [K(αζαβήτη) Ά(γιοι) Α(πόστολοι) 1884, from Megalo Kazaviti, Prinos, Thasos (Μεγάλο Καζαβίτι, Πρίνος, Θάσος). Not clearly struck (Wilski G 10-12b). The script “λ” from the ΠΛ(ωμάριον) countermark with «Π» on obverse. Not clear strike (Wilski G 11-01b). Fine.
