1862 QV Young head Sovereign struck in Platinum. Counterfeit Sovereigns were made at the time (mostly in Europe), in platinum then gold plated. Surface marks with X defacing marks, EF. For detailed information refer to The Counterfeiting of Sovereigns in the Nineteenth Century by GP Dyer. Published in the Numismatic Chronicle Vol 172 (2012) pgs 287-292. Very scarce. A fascinating addition to a sovereign collection. (P)
