Opens w/greeting by Brigade cmdr Dan Even. Cover entitled "Echo of the Mediterranean", w/quote ex Book of Joshua; editors: Michael Deshe (a famous writer & poet) & Emanuel Zamir (lyricist & poet, prominent in 1950s). In June 1948 the Brigade was involved in 'Altalena affair'; in August Even was promoted to General & cmdr of eastern front. In near-mint condition. Lot 0340a - militaria militaria - Historama SIGNIFICANT JUDAICA Mailbid SaleIsrael: emblem pin for Palestinian Jews who volunteered in British military in World War II, c. 1954; not maker-marked; size: 17.5 x 20mm; weight: 2.5g. Depicts sword (whose base turns into olive branch) breaking ring of barbed wire & chain enclosing Star of David, set against stripes of Israeli/ Zionist flag. May date to 1954, when an official celebration of 10 years to the founding of the Jewish Brigade took place and a commemorative book with this emblem on the cover was published. Lot 0335a - militaria militaria - Historama SIGNIFICANT JUDAICA Mailbid SaleFinland: rare armshield badge of Finnish volunteers in German military service, circa 1941-43. This armshield was probably worn by members of the Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS ("Finnisches Freiwilligen Bataillon"), formed in June 1941 (and disbanded in June 1943). It may also have been worn by Finnish volunteers serving in the 5th 'Wiking' Division of the Waffen-SS, or in the NSKK or Organisation Todt. This is the printed version of the national emblem, cut from sheets, and the border is visible on this piece. Excellent, preserved condition. Obv.: fire & crumbling walls of J'lem Old City + dates 1943-1948; Etzel emblem rising from flames; leg. below "Combat Force - Shock Units". Rev.: Irgun emblem. Dates refer to Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943) & Etzel's participation in battle for Jewish Quarter of Old City (in which the "shock units" took part). Heb. leg. on clasp reads: "Union of Etzel Soldiers # Combat-Force Decoration". Lot 0336a - militaria militaria - Historama SIGNIFICANT JUDAICA Mailbid SaleHaganah veteran's pin from the Petach Tikva unit, circa. 1950's; not maker-marked; weight: 3.25g. A two-piece construction incorporating a stylized version of the Hagana emblem set against an artistic version of a Star of David which bears a 'Menorah' device in the center. Solid-back with safety-pin fastened to it. The Haganah was organized on a geographic basis, so its veteran's organization (founded 12 May 1949) is similarly structured around the locales where Hagana units were raised. Obv.: prison camp & stockade w/title "Prisoners Award". Rev.: Irgun emblem. Issued to members who were deported & held in detention camps in East Africa. Issued by the "Association of Etzel Soldiers" ('Brit Khayalei HaEtzel'). May be a replacement as it lacks the original dark blue-white-blue ribbon & metal clasp. Association members: served for 6 or more months; anyone who served & was wounded/ arrested, or participated in operational activities; berieved parents.
