Bank of America, 1879 Specimen $10,000 Clearing House Certificate. New York, NY, $10,000, Haxby NY-1435-Not listed, 1879, Bank of America, Special Deposit Certificate to the New York Clearing House payable in Gold. Black on green underprint, Indian Princess with shield at center, counterfoil on left, back blue with endorsement space, Archival date on bottom "Oct. 28th, 1879", Danforth, Wright & Co. imprint (Evidently this is a pre-1860 design used at a later date). Appears CU but there are light vertical folds between the note and the counterfoil on the left as well as 2 very light archival handling folds on the right margin. Rare, stunning and missing from most advanced collections. DF&C (ABNC). This was meant for internal bank purposes and not for public circulation. A similar example sold in the Shingoethe. Auction in a different color in 2004 for over $6000. (Ex-Stacks, Entlich, White Oak, Gross & St. Andre Collections - 3/23/2009).
