William Sellers (1824 - 1905) war Maschinenbauingenieur und Geschäftsmann, der sich sowohl als Hersteller als auch als Erfinder einen Namen machte. Er meldete mehr als 90 Patente an, vor allem solche für den United States Standard Screw Thread, einen Standard für Gewindeschrauben und Unterlegscheiben auf Zoll-Basis. Lange Jahre leitete Sellers seine eigene Firma, den Werkzeugmaschinenhersteller William Sellers & Co., der in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung in diesem Bereich hatte. Darüber hinaus war Sellers Director der Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad und der Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. Zudem war er President des Franklin Institute wie auch der Edgemoor Iron Company und den William Butcher Steel Works, Vice-President des Board of Finance der Centennial Exposition sowie Mitglied in verschiedenen Vereinigungen. William Sellers (1824 - 1905) was a mechanical engineer, manufacturer, businessperson and inventor. He filed more than 90 patents, most notably the design for the United States standard screw thread, a standard for inch based threaded fasteners and washers. For many years he has been leading the machine tool firm of William Sellers & Co., which was a very influential machine tool builder during the latter half of the 19th century. More about that, Sellers was Director of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad and the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. Further he was elected as President of the Franklin Institute as well as the Edgemoor Iron Company and the William Butcher Steel Works, Vice-President of the Centennial Expositions' Board of Finance and a member of several societies.
