1773 Virginia Halfpenny Breen-181 PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved. Variety without a stop following GEORGIVS. Choice lustrous medium brown with traces of very faded mint color in protected areas on the obverse. The best identifying mark is a wisp of slightly darker chocolate brown toning at the I in NIA. A sharply struck gem example of this halfpenny that was authorized by the British Crown for use in colonial Virginia. Most likely from the famous Colonel Cohen Hoard of mint state examples that was disbursed over the decades beginning in the early 1870's. Listed on page 45 in the "Redbook."
