A UNIQUE UMAYYAD GOLD DINAR. Hisham, AH 105-125 (724-743). Dinar AH 110 (728-29), al-Andalus (Andalousie). Inscription centrale sur trois lignes, entourée d'une légende circulaire / Inscription centrale sur trois lignes entourée d'une légende circulaire. 4,29g. A - (cf. 136D) ; Bernardi - (cf. 44Aa). Superbe exemplaire.
Not recorded in Album and Bernardi. The legends on the western coinage of the Umayyads copied those of the half dinars struck after the year AH 91 in the east, probably in Damascus, or possibly in Egypt. This coin is the latest known date for this style of legends from both the mints of al-Andalus, previously known from 108, and Ifriqiya 107. After AH 114, both mints struck dinars with eastern legends, as those of Damascus, for the remaining period of their issuance. The dies used to strike this elegant coin were probably produced by an engraver from Cordoba, where coins of new design were issued four years later.
