HAWAII: Kalakaua, 1874-1891, AR ¼ dollar, 1883, KM-5, Fine, ornate hand engraved date, Feb. 1, 1898 around bust. On February 1, 1893, the US Minister (ambassador) John L. Stevens proclaimed Hawaii a protectorate of the United States. This is dated on the 5th anniversary of said event.
