1910, 21 December, USA, Railway accident at Chicago, Ill., two ppc with scorch marks and straight lines "Damaged by Fire Pitts.&Ohi. /R.P.O. Chicago Yards, Dc. 21st" resp. "Delayed In Wreck / PITTS.&CHI.TR 16 /At Chicago DEC 21'10". Crossing an open switch, a locomotive crashed into the tender of the eastbound Pittsburgh&Chicago's fast passenger train no. 16 at 57th street, Chicago, Ill. The wreck overturned the train's tender, a RPO car and baggage car. The locomotive's boiler exploded and the resultant fire burned the railway cars that had overturned. Local firefighters were summonded, they fought the blaze until it was finally extinguished.
