1840, 1d black pl.7 HH, with good margins all around, on entire from Liverpool to Manchester, tied by brown or red-brown Maltese cross with matching Liverpool despatch cds "Liverpool / SP 19 / 1840 " on reverse. Obverse with VERY RARE "6" RAILWAY HANDSTAMP in red of The Liverpool & Manchester line. the cover was carried on the Manchester railway. The post was carried in bundles and the top cover would receive a numeral between 2 and 6 to indicate which of the six services were used during the day.
Cover in very fine, crisp condition. Stanley Gibbons prices the brown Maltese cross at £9500 ROKOFF & JACKSON HAVE NOT RECORDED ANY COVER WITH THE INSPECTOR HANDSTAMP 6, AND ONLY TWO WITH HANDSTAMP 5.
