London - Capetown Flight 1936 (May 6): Envelope franked with South West Africa pictorial ½ d. and 1d. tied by "WINDHOEK AIR MAIL 6.5.36" to "CAPE TOWN 7. MAY 36" with endorsed type-written note: "Carried by Mrs. Amy Mollison on her record breaking flight from London to Cape Town via West Coast of Africa, Windhoek, 6 May, 1936", signed 'A Mollison', one of only four covers carried on that leg. Fine and scarce. - The British aviatrix Amy Johnson, departed Gravesend Aerodrome, Kent, England, 4 May 1936, in her Percival D.3 Gull Six, enroute to Cape Town and had set a record for solo flying this route, breaking the existing record which had been set by her husband, James Mollison.
