British P.O. 1855: India 4 a. black on blue glazed paper (Gi. 35) used on 9 August 1859 entire letter from Pondichery to Port Louis, Mauritius endorsed "via Madras & Aden", tied by "C / 111" obliterator in black. Struck in transit at Madras with curved "INDIA PAID" and carried the "Simla" from Madras to Aden and thence on the "Benares" via Seychelles to Mauritius with oval "PACKET LETTER / MAURITIUS" on reverse in black (Sept 15). Manuscript "4" denoting the credit to the British Post Office. Despite the red arricators a very scarce fully paid entire.
