1864: 1 d. lake, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, surcharged ONE PENNY with Thin Bar (A), a used vertical strip of four, on 1864 cover to London, Goodman correspondence, with oval "POST OFFICE / ST. HELENA" despatch in blue at left (July 25), the stamps cancelled in manuscript ink and also tied by "London / Paid" arrival cds (Oct 4) in red. Reverse with Ryde cds (Oct 3) and "Ship Letter / London" cds in red (Oct 4). A magnificent and rare cover carried at the private Ship Letter rate of 4d. with mss. "2" in red being the British credit.
