Wreck Cover 1908: Cover from Pietersburg, Transvaal (Oct 24) to H.M. Consul in Panama, stamps washed off, recovered from the wreck of the US owned Panamian steamer "Finance", which sank following a collision with the White Star Liner "Georgic" as it was leaving New York. Three passengers and one crew member were lost as the vessel sank in under 10 minutes, one bag of mail being saved when picked up by a tug near the Sandy Hook lightship. Reverse with New York PO explanatory label applied and stating "The piece of mail herewith was recovered from wreck of steamer Finance, which was sunk through collision with steamer Georgic, Thursday, Nov 26, 1908 / E. M. Morgan, Postmaster". Panama arrival cds in violet also on reverse of a rare cover.
