French Post Office in Alexandretta 1852 (July 22): Entire letter from Alexandrette to Paris, dated inside, struck by crisp cursive handstamp “Alexandrette” in black (Pothion = 28 points), “SMYRNE TURQUIE” transit cds (7 Aout 52) alongside, reverse PARIS arrival cds (Aug 18) in red. During its journey the cover was slitted and treated with vinegar. Taxed upon arrival with ‘10’ décimes.
Note: An extremely early entire, the bureau de distribution of Alexandretta was opened in August 1852 following Pothion.
