lot # 7089 - russland post in levante
Russian P.O. in Lattakia 1886 (July 11): Entire letter from Lattakia via Alexandretta to Aleppo, bearing 1884 7 kop. blue (rounded corner), tied by light strike of LATAKIA datestamp in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 209), sender's cachet alongside, showing on reverse oval "R.O.P.iT. / AG. ALEKSANDRETTA" transit datestamp (July 12) in green (Tchilinghirian fig. 202) and all Latin "ALEP TURQUIE" arrival cds (July 25, georgian). A presumably unique cover as Tchilinghirian did resconstruct this cancellation from part strikes on single stamps. Cert. Mikulski (2000).
Provenance: Collection Agathon Fabergé, ex Adolf Glaettlli bought at WIPA 1933; Collection Cihangir, Corinphila sale 121 (May 2000), lot 558.
