lot # 301 - falkland islands/malvinas postal history
RARE MAIL: Cover sent from Buenos Aires franked with 10c. Seated Liberty (stamp a little eroded on front, of little importance), addressed to "HUGO ACUÑA, EXPEDITIONARY OF THE SOUTH ORKNEYS - ABOARD THE SCOTIA", with arrival mark of the Falklands: "Falkland Islands 18/FE/1904", when the ship under the command of Captain Bruce had already left to the Orkneys. The cover was forwarded to Edinburgh (backstamp of 29/MAR/1904) and as naturally Hugo Acuña was not there because his stay on the islands would last one year and then he would return to Buenos Aires, the cover was returned to Argentina, arriving in the dead letter office on 29/AU/1905. This is the only known cover sent from Argentina to a member of the Argentine-Scottish Expedition intended to arrive during its stop on the Falkland Islands, and it is the most exotic cover franked with Seated Liberty stamps, great rarity, with Alberto Solari certificate.
