CHINA, Hankow Local Post, c. 1893 50c Violet on Yellow Dog (Livingston T14). Original gum, paper h.r., large margins, fresh color

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE HANKOW 50-CENT DOG LOCAL POST. LESS THAN TEN ARE THOUGHT TO EXIST.

This was produced locally in Hankow by the same printer who printed Hankow's first issue (Nos. 1-10). Most of the literature suggests this was used as a tax stamp (a few cancelled copies exist), though it may have been a proposed design that was rejected due to the English inscriptions not fully translated into Chinese.

An essential rarity for the Dog topical collector. Ex W.L. Kullman, who purchased it in the 1973 H.R. Harmer's sale of the Lyons Livingston stock. Kullman retained it after selling the rest of his Local Post collection (Image Magnifier)

Estimate $1500 - $2000
