Goldenveizer (1875 - 1961) was a prominent Jewish-Russian pianist, composer, teacher and writer; artistic director of the Central Music School of the Conservatory and creator of one of the largest piano schools in the Soviet Union. Obverse: emblem of the Taba exhibition, with Hebrew legend around "National Stamp Exhibition # Haifa 5712 1952". Reverse stamped with the name "Shmuel Lachman" - may be the same person who authored several important articles in the Israeli numismatic world on Ottoman coinage in the 1960's and '70s. This medal was probably issued to participants who exhibited stamp collections at the fair. In UNC-BU; some surface dirt (polish?). Israel: "Taba" nationale Briefmarkenausstellung in Haifa 1952 vergoldete Uniface-Bronzemedaille; kein Hersteller gekennzeichnet; Größe: 39,25 mm; Gewicht: 47,5 g; Dicke: 4,5 mm. The Jewish Free School (JFS) was founded in 1732 as the Talmud Torah of the Great Synagogue of London, serving orphans of the community; in the early 1800s it absorbed thousands of immigrant children and numbered at one point 4000 students, making it the largest school in the world. Today the JFS is Europe's largest and most successful Jewish secondary school. Großbritannien: 1. Obverse depicts open Torah scroll and reader pointing to the text, with name "Moses Ben Maimon" next to it. On reverse portrait image of Rambam. On rim artist's name and date are etched. This piece appears to be based in part (Rambam's portrait) on an earlier thinner medal produced by Shagin in 1985 for the Sephardic Educational Center in Jerusalem. The medallist is Jewish (b. 1947), a former 'refusnik' from the Soviet Union. US: [Rabbi] Moses Ben Maimon ('Rambam'/Maimonides) Relief-Guss Bronzemedaille von Alex Shagin, 1994; Größe: 79,5 mm; Gewicht: 445 g; Dicke: >= 1 cm.
