1788 Connecticut Miller 16.4-L.2 Rarity-5+ VG10. Draped Bust Left. Off Center. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel blending to darker chocolate and olive brown in protected areas. No corrosion or verdigris, and the only marks are a few shallow planchet chips on the rim behind the seated figure on the reverse. Very late die state, the latest seen, with a massive die crack across the reverse plus an additional crack arcing down through the shield to the rim. A much later die state than seen in the Perkins or Ford collections. These dies were worn out. Struck slightly off center to K-4 leaving the date and parts of the legends off the planchet. The dies were in medal alignment, head-to-head rather than the normal head-to-foot orientation. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 116.2 grains.
Estimated Value $100-UP.

1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-1 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Variety with "IN" left of the Oak Tree. Frosty light gray and steel with luster covering the fields and protected areas. Very sharply struck. All the devices are boldly impressed including the finely cut Oak Tree. Just the lightest touch of rub on the highest points of the devices from mint state. This piece would be an unqualified gem except for a mint-made planchet void affecting the N in "IN" and the opposing D in "DOM." Intermediate die state. Struck with the obverse die very slightly off center to K-1 and the reverse off a similar amount to K-9. This example has details as bold as the finest example in the Ford collection and superior to any of the Hain pieces. Listed on page 39 in the "Redbook." Weight shown as 71.6 grains on the PCGS label. Population 1; none finer at PCGS. Estimated Value $10,000-UP.

1766 Pitt Halfpenny Token Breen-251 F12. Attractive glossy light chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a spot of darker olive brown toning in the field behind the head and a fine scratch in the field before the face. The top of some letters in the legend are off the planchet since the dies were larger than the planchet and the top edge of the date is weak. Listed on page 50 in the "Redbook." Weight 78.2 grains.
Estimated Value $300-UP.

1787 Connecticut Miller 33.7-r.4 Rarity-5+ F12. Draped Bust Left. Sharpness VF20 but covered with fine roughness under a rather glossy dark olive brown and steel patina. The only marks are a shallow planchet lamination at UC in AUCTORI (as struck) and a few very faint hairline scratches at the top of the head. The date is weak and the bottom of the digits are off the planchet, but it is easily readable. The legends are complete. Not perfect but very nice for this variety. It is at least comparable to the better of the two Perkins examples and the variety was missing from the Ford collection. This is the Norweb coin, and it was plated in that 1988 catalog. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 134.5 grains.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex Norweb Family Collection, Bowers & Merena 3/24/1988:2544 (where plated).
