Francis Spinner, 1856 Holographic Autographed Historic Letter With Spinner Calling Himself a Black Republican. Mohawk, NY, September 8, 1856, One page letter in Spinner's hand and also signed by him. Congressman Spinner discusses the fact that: “ I should commit to it in writing – I therefore say to you and to all such as infer from my votes in congress that I am a Republican , that the inference is true and hereby not only avow myself one, but if more agreeable be wishing to be called a “Black One”. VF condition but the letter was evidently split on the bottom horizontal fold and reinforced with archival tape that does not detract from the appearance and is very difficult to make out. Amazing declaration from Spinner and possibly not seen in any other of his writings.
