lot # 617 - united states liberty cents
1846 N-3 R2 Repunched 4 EF40. Close to EF45 in sharpness but there are a few too many tiny nicks for the higher grade. A good identifying mark is a small rim nick off the end of the wreath ribbon. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate with a small spot of darker chocolate brown toning under TE in UNITED. Rare LDS, die state e, with strong rim cud breaks over TES-OF. Tied for CC#6 honors among those known to Grellman with these rim cuds. The repunching on the 4 is still visible. And it comes with a nice provenance.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
