PENGUINS Australia - Official notepaper inscribed THE BRITISH, AUSTRALIAN, NEW ZEALAND ANTARCTIC RESEARCH EXPEDITION OF 1929-30 S.Y. 'DISCOVERY'. The paper bears 28 impressions of the B.A.N.Z. cancel in black with both types (in the main type the top feather of the tail is above the left bar of the 'X', in the second it is between the 'E' and 'X')

PENGUINS Italy - three attractive unused comic postcards. For the first year of their five year training to be pilots, students at the Italian Airforce Academy were known as Pinguinos (Penguins), i.e. flightless birds. All cards show penguins and were designed by students. Also four unused postcards showing students dressed up as penguins at a carnival in Alassio.

PENGUINS Terres Australes et Antarctiques Francaises - 1956 Die Proof in sepia of the 50c Rockhopper Penguin as SG.4. The proof is unfinished with the value, ARCHIPEL DES CROZET, ANTARCTIQUES FRANCAISES and POSTES blank and sketched in in pencil. The outer surround has been reduced to 78mm x 90mm.

PENGUINS Terres Australes et Antarctiques Francaises - 1987 Macaroni Penguin 4f 80c hand coloured Die Proof of SG.226 reversed i.e. the penguin faces left. Partially coloured with the crest in ochre, the bill and eye in shades of red and the rocks in yellow. The black engraved portions of the two smaller penguins in black. No country name or value. Signed in large embossed surround.

PENGUINS USA - pair of Operation Highjump covers, the exercise in the Antarctic designed to introduce American troops to polar conditions. The first is a 1947 cover from the U.S.S. Mount Olympus to Holland, there charged with an 8c postage due. Fine Operation Highjump penguin cachet on the reverse. The second cover is a pictorial cover incl. letter and a rare copy of the Penguin Special, the ship's newspaper dated 23 JAN 1947 from the NAVY...
