Russo-Turkish War 1878: Cover carried free of charges from Field Post Office No. 1 still based at Tirnovo to Sofia, struck with superb "FIELD POST OFFICE / (1)" circular datestamp (Tchilinghirian 60) in black "Polevaya Poctovaya Kontora - 1". Russian Troops were now in control south of the Shipka Pass and had advanced as far as Adrianople. These Military covers are perhaps much rarer than perhaps they should be, due in no small part to the fact that Franz See's collection was destroyed during the Soviet occupation of Bucharest in 1944.rnrnProvenance: Collection S.V. Prigara.
