1859: 6 d. golden bronze, imperforate, a used example (Type 1) with large if uneven margins all round, used on 1859 cover endorsed "via Southampton" to London, tied by Bowra circle and bars numeral "8" obliterator in black with corresponding "FREEMANTLE / WESTERN-AUSTRALIA" double arc datestamp of despatch at left (July 15) in black. Carried on P&O Line on the "Northam" to Port Louis (Mauritius) and Suez (Aug 28) and from Alexandria on the "Ceylon" to Southampton with "London / Paid" cds in red (Sept 19). Readdressed upon arrival to Maidenhead, Bucks (Sept 20) with arrival on reverse. Two file folds well away from the adhesive, a fine and very rare cover.
