1847: 1 s. green, embossed, top corner marginal, touching along base otherwise large to huge margins, used on a registered cover in combination with 1855 2 d. blue, plate 5, lettered NI, perf. 16, wmk. large crown, fault lower right corner, together with horizontal pair 1855 4 d. carmine, perf. 14, wmk. small garter, highly glazed and deeply blued paper, sent from London to Derby, dated 4 January 1856, cancelled by the London inland '24' barred oval in black. To the reverse a Lombard Street dispatch in red and an arrival datestamp in green (5 January 1856). Soiled and apparent damage to envelope with some creasing. However, a unique and rare example. The only recorded domestic use of a tri-colour with an embossed, line engraved and surface printed stamp combination. It also features a perforation mixed franking of perf. 16 and perf. 14 SG = £ 2'800+.
