lot # 4042 - grossbritannien
1884: 2 s. 6 d. lilac, white paper, wmk. anchor, in combination with 1881 1 d. lilac, Jubilee 1887 1½ d. dull purple & pale green, 3 d. purple on yellow and 1900 1 s. green & carmine, all with 'SMS / & S' perfin, used on commercial parcel post label, sent parcel letter post from London to Bordighera, Italy, dated 28 Febaruary 1901, tied by London foreign branch 'FB' circular dumb cancel in black. Some creasing although in the main fine. The rate of 3 s. 11½ d. is for a 1 Ib 3 oz. package. A rare example. Whilst there are more than 40 covers known with the 2 s. 6 d. stamp used in combination with 1887 Jubilee stamps, the 1900 1 s. green & carmine is extraordinarily rare. This being the only recorded example of such a mixed franking.
