French P.O. in China 1862: France 40 c. orange and 80 c. carmine in a block of four, used on 1864 cover to Purmerende, Netherlands endorsed "per Mail via Marseille", all tied by "5104" gros chiffres and by "SHANGHAI / BAU FRANCAIS" cds of despatch (Nov 8) in black with framed 'PD' adjacent. "PAQ. AN. V. SUEZ / AMB. MARS" entry marking in red (Dec 23) and reverse with Paris cds (Christmas Day) and Purmerend arrival cds in red (Dec 27). An attractive and scarce cover.
