1849 (Jan 1): Cérès 20 c. black on yellowish paper, two horizontal pairs, margins touched to good, used on reverse of 1849 registered cover to Paris, both pairs tied by individual strikes of the grill handstamp in black, with notation in manuscript "12 g.". Obverse of envelope with superb strike of the grill handstamp in black, straight line CHARGÉ in red and despatch cds of 'Auxonne' (Type 13) in black (Nov 25). Some faults to envelope which was probably carrying cash and coin. Rare and most unusual cover.
