lot # 2915 - World RHODESIA & BSAC
1901 British South Africa Company Arms £20 yellow-bistre, ultra-high value, LR cnr marg with sheet no 37. Superb fresh MNH, with pristine never hinged original gum, excellent centring & beautiful bright colour. Scott 75A cat US$22,500+++. SG 93a cat £16,000 for M, so should be at least double £32,000+. The vast majority of the £20 value were used fiscally with various cancels, some of which have been cleaned/repaired/regummed & then fraudulently offered. While there are some cheap sound UN examples of the £5 & £10 values available from company display boards & from BSA company archives, there are no such examples of the £20, & furthermore no examples exist opt/perf specimen either, nor any postally used or CTO. Therefore, genuine mint original gum examples of the £20 value rank as one of the great high value rarities of the British Empire, & almost all of the major collections of British Empire sold in the last 20 years have lacked a genuine mint example. While in perfect MNH original gum condition only 2 examples are recorded - we previously sold the other example for $33,000+commission in our auction 368. Unique opportunity to obtain this unique positional piece of this high denomination rarity. 2006 BPA photo-cert for pair this stamp came from, while diff new certificate can be obtained on request.
