Die Firma war eine britische Gesellschaft, die das Gebiet von Südrhodesien erschloss und verwaltete. Am 15.10.1889 erhielt die Gesellschaft einen Schutzbrief der englischen Regierung, der ihr fast vollständige Selbständigkeit in der Verwaltung von Matabele-, Maschona- und Manikaland gewährte.
