lot # 173 - united states classic head half cents
1811 C-2 R3 PCGS graded VF20. Dull steel and olive brown. Both sides display a layer of oxidation that dulls the natural gloss and adversely affects the eye appeal of an otherwise smooth half cent. No roughness or verdigris, and the only mark is a long, dull nick from the bust tip to star 1. I suspect this piece was cleaned long ago and allowed to retone naturally. Regardless it needs a proper brushing to bring the surfaces back to life. MDS, Manley state 2.0, with die clashmarks behind the head. The date is bold and the legends are clear. Our grade is net VG8, perhaps a bit better if properly brushed.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
