lot # 227 - united states large cents
1793 S-8 R3 Wreath Cent VF35. Variety with a Vine & Bars Edge. Five points sharper but there are a few minor contact marks on otherwise choice, very attractive surfaces. The notable marks are rim nick over the Y in LIBERTY, another dull rim nick over the R in AMERICA, and a smaller rim nick right of the F in OF. The surfaces are smooth, completely void of corrosion or verdigris, with only trivial ticks and tiny pre-striking planchet chips. Choice glossy chocolate brown. MDS, Breen state II. The diagonal die crack and associated swelling on the reverse are clear but the fine die cracks at the top of the obverse that are associated with the late state have not formed. A beautiful 1793 Wreath Cent. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU50BN (NGC label #1745247-002 included).
Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
Ex L. Khalsa-Doug Bird 4/5/2008-Ed Leitner.
