YEMEN: AR thaler, AH1371, KM-X2, countermarked with both obverse and reverse of the AH1371 (1951/52) 1/16 ahmadi riyal dies, on "1780" Maria Theresa thaler, Unc, RR. The countermark dies appear to be genuine dies from the San'a mint. It has been suggested that there were struck at the San'a mint by request of the same individuals who produced all the fantasy countermarks of Nejd, Hejaz, Pemba, etc., in the early to mid 1960s. It is also conceivable that the official Yemeni dies somehow appeared in the market during the Yemeni 1962-1969 civil war.
Estimate: $500 - 600
