18 Kreuzer brick-red, fresh colours and full to large margins, together with 1 Kreuzer yellow-green and 3 Kreuzer rose (the latter lower margin supplemented), with neatly applied "K. B. BAHNPOST 6 DEZ. Mchn.-Nbg." (1869) on small envelope to Toronto, Canada, still franked according to the old 1866 rate. 1 Kreuzer green and 3 Kreuzer rose, both fresh colours and fine, with franking mark "MÜNCHEN II 16 AUG." as postage paid 4 Kreuzer franking on printed matter (offer of engraved portraits of King Ludwig II) with routing mark "via Bremen" to New York, USA. 6 Kreuzer brown, watermark 'Enge Rauten', 2 single values, with small EKr. "ANSBACH 27 5" (1871) on envelope with reverse transit postmark from Munich (and then forwarded via Switzerland) to Vannes in Brittany, with arrival datestamp of 1 June. Slight lack of opening and minor traces of age on reverse, otherwise perfect. A rare multiple franking and scarce diversion during the Paris Commune. Certificate Brettl AIEP (2016)

1866, envelope from Vienna to Rome. Due to the war, transport via Austria was not possible; on the reverse, the postal clerk calculated the postage via France (101 kreuzer) resp. via Switzerland (70 kreuzer) and noted "Via France" on face, with the red transit postmark of Strasbourg next to it. The letter is franked with 1863/64, 2 Kr. yellow and 6 pieces of 15 Kr. brown, three wide 3Kr. green were replaced (cancellation repainted here)....

BADEN: 1848, complete folded cover from Prince Karl Theodor von Thurn und Taxis, with L2 "MANNHEIM 11 May 48" to his daughter in Ansbach. As the Prince did not enjoy postage exemption in Baden, the letter was taxed at "12" crosses despite the franchise mark; on face red "WÜRZBURG AUSLAGE ". The tax was then cancelled again, as the sender and recipient enjoyed postage exemption in Bavaria. An interesting letter from the time of the uprising in...

1850, complete folded cover prepaid with 1 shilling and 4 pence from the 'Linnean Society of London' to Professor Carl Ritter von Martius, President of the Royal Bavarian Botanical Society, with "From England per Aachen franco" on face to Regensburg, forwarded to Munich, again prepaid with "6" crosses for the domestic route. The Society thanks you for your congratulations on the election of Robert Brown as President of the Society.

In England initially used "LONDON PAID", but then the "PAID" was cancelled and the letter was franked in Bavaria as completely...

1850, 6 Kreuzer brown, large margins on all sides, with Ra2 "WIEN 2 APR" (1851) on envelope to Prince Carl of Bavaria in Munich. The regular Postal Union postage rate was 9 crosses; according to a regulation, letters sent within Austria to persons who enjoyed postage exemption could be franked with half the fee, but this did not apply to Bavaria. The letter was postpaid with "6" crosses, but the prince personally enjoyed exemption from...

A very unusual and scarce piece.

1841, complete parcel cover from Bremen to Norderney, with neatly applied boxed cancel "TELEGRAPH Franco" and corresponding routing mark. An extraordinarily scarce cover of the seaside resort service of the Bremen-Wangerooge-Norderney line; we have only registered one other letter with this cancellation.
