1843, entire letter written "in quarantine, Syra, the Cyclades, Aug 20" via Marseilles to an army officer in Limmerick, Ireland, prepaid for internal mail and charged 1s 3d on arrival. Complete 4 pages contents detailing the quarantine condidions at the Syra Sanitary station, travels to Constatinople, etc. Despite written in quarantine, the letter was disinfected in Malta in transit. A very scarce postal history item in excelllent condition.
