1841: 2 d. blue pl. 4, a used horizontal strip of four lettered AD-AG, margins large on three sides and shaved at top, tied to 1850 second sheet of entire letter to Madras, India care of Forwarding Agents Borrodaile, Thompson & Co, Cape Town by '177' numeral obliterators of Cheltenham. Reverse with Cheltenham despatch cds in blue (June 7) and London transit in red. Obverse with weak strike of "SHIP LETTER / ♚ / LONDON" in red with the Forwarding Agent's legend deleted in manuscript alongside. A rare cover. Just eight 4 x 2d = 8d Ship Letter frankings recorded in the Karl Louis Card Index.
