Corinphila Auction 291-297 Day 3

1866 (July 7): Unpaid entire letter from Pondichery to Ostende, Belgium endorsed "via Marseilles", struck on despatch with "INDE / PONDICHERY" despatch cds in black. Carried by the French steamer "Eurymanthe" to Galle, thence by the "Donnai" to Suez, and the "Peluse" to Marseille. Struck in Marseille with rare usage of framed "F. / 26" Convention handstamp in black (Salles fig. 3162, Van der Linden fig. 1156). Ostende arrival cds (Aug 9) in black on reverse and charged '10' décimes due. Small imperfections but a rare entire to a most unusual destination.
