1864/79: Great Britain 1 d. red, pl. 102, a fine used example on 1869 cover to Devonport carried at Sailor's Concessionary rate, endorsed at top "John Clark, Boiler Maker, Ascension" and counter-signed below by Commanding Officer; with ASCENSION code A datestamp in black at left (April 15) and the adhesive tied by DEVONPORT / 250 duplex upon arrival (May 7). The envelope somewhat roughly opened with edge wear at lower right and closed flap tear on reverse but rare and very fine Gi = £ 3'250 off cover.rnrnNote: A further cover from this correspondence (dated July 1867) was in RL, London 15 Feb 1978, lot 2.
