Auction 309-320 - Europe & Overseas - Day 6

1859 (Oct. 22): Unpaid cover from Faenza to Castel Bolognese, taxed on obverse with '1' bajocchi, bearing on reverse as due 1859 (Sept) ½ baj. 'giallo paglia', a superb vertical pair with good colour and large even margins all round, sheet margin at base, tied by grill obliterator. A fair "FAENZA 22 OTT 59" despatch cds was struck on obverse. One sideflap missing, nevertheless a most interesting item showing the usage of the Romagna adhesives as due, ex Provera, signed G. Bolaffi; cert. A. Diena (1972) Sassone = € 6'500.
