lot # 703 - Peru
1858/59: 1 peseta rose-red in a clear pale dry shade, the magnificent used block of eighteen (9 x 2), showing the connection between the two Transfer blocks (Types 7-8-9-10-7-8-9-10 / 2-3-4-5-1-2-3-4-5-) with huge margins all round this famous multiple, cancelled by individual (18) strikes of the oval dotted CHACHAPOYAS handstamps in black. Vertical crease between four and fifth rows, tiny nick in margin beneath seventeenth stamp and slight thinning affecting three stamps at far right but not the dramatic appearance of the largest recorded multiple in the rose shade. Ex the Brian Moorhouse estate.
