1856/59: Two exhibition pages featuring four covers illustrating the Charles Rideout Experimental Machine number '1' duplex cancel - Type I and II. Covers include; 1856 1 s. green, plate 1, wmk. Emblems, perf. 14, used on small envelope, London to Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece, dated 15 May 1858, tied by Charles Rideout Machine '1' Duplex, Type I, in black. A rare example especially to Corfu. Comes on a page with a mourning cover franked with 1868 6 d. lilac, plate 1, wmk. Emblems, perf. 14 (trimmed at base) sent from London to Gibraltar tied by the same cancel dated 16 August 1858 (SG 70). The other page has an Eastern Counties Railway envelope franked with an 1857 1 d. red, perf. 14, sent locally cancelled by Charles Rideout Machine '1' Duplex, Type II, dated 15 February 1859 (SG 40). Accompanied by a cover franked with 1858 2 d. blue plate 7 sent from London to Macclesfield tied by the same cancellation (Machine '1' Type II) dated 2 May 1859 (SG 45).
